October is one of my favorite times to ride around Mariposa. The summer heat starts backing off, the days get cooler, and fall begins showing up across the Sierra Foothills.

This year, we have another good reason to get on the bikes.

Happy Goat is holding its first annual Pumpkin Patch at Happy Goat Farm in Mariposa on October 17–18 and October 24–25, 2026, and Yosemite E-Biking is offering private guided e-bike tours to the farm during the event.

The ride gets us there. Then we get off the bikes and enjoy the farm.

And during these Pumpkin Patch weekends, everything at Happy Goat is free. Admission is free. The activities and competitions are free. And everyone gets a free pumpkin.

Take a Guided E-Bike Tour to Happy Goat Farm in Mariposa

I like rides that have a destination.

Around Mariposa, that might mean an old mining road, a historic site, a swimming hole, a good lunch spot, or a ridge with a big view of the Sierra.

For two weekends this October, we're riding to Happy Goat Farm.

We'll start in Mariposa and ride through the surrounding Sierra Foothills on pedal-assist e-bikes before reaching the farm. You don't need to be an experienced cyclist. Like our other private Yosemite E-Biking tours, we'll go over the bikes before we start and adjust the ride to the group.

Once we get to Happy Goat, we'll park the bikes and spend some time at the Pumpkin Patch.

Happy Goat is a 2,000-acre nonprofit regenerative farm near Mariposa. The farm raises animals, grows food for the local community, and uses regenerative agriculture to improve the land. Visitors can see goats, alpacas, pigs, ducks, sheep, and other farm animals.

It's already an interesting place to visit. Riding an e-bike there makes it even better.

A Free Pumpkin Patch Near Yosemite

The Happy Goat Pumpkin Patch isn't just free admission.

Everything at the farm is free during these event days.

You can see the animals, explore the farm, take part in the activities, and enter the daily competitions without paying an admission or activity fee.

And everyone gets a free pumpkin to take home.

There will also be daily competitions, including:

  • Pie-eating contest

  • Cornhole

  • Bobbing for apples

  • Prizes for the winners

Contest times will be announced separately.

You don't have to compete in anything. I'm perfectly happy hanging out with the goats. But I have a feeling the pie-eating contest could be worth sticking around for.

Fall E-Biking in the Sierra Foothills

October is a good month to explore the country outside Yosemite National Park.

Mariposa sits along Highway 140, one of the main gateways to Yosemite, but people often miss a lot here when they're focused on getting into the park.

The backroads around town run through ranch country, old Gold Rush areas, and the rolling Sierra Foothills. By October, temperatures are generally easier for riding than during the hottest part of summer, and the changing season gives the landscape a different feel.

That's one reason I like this Happy Goat ride.

We're not trying to squeeze another attraction into a Yosemite itinerary. We're getting on bikes and going somewhere.

The farm just happens to have goats, contests, pumpkins, and pie waiting at the other end.

Pumpkin Patch Dates and Hours

The first annual Happy Goat Pumpkin Patch in Mariposa takes place over two weekends:

October 17–18, 2026; October 24–25, 2026

Saturdays and Sundays, 11 a.m.–5 p.m. — Happy Goat Farm, Mariposa, California

During the Pumpkin Patch events:

Admission is free. Farm activities are free. Daily competitions are free. Everyone gets a free pumpkin.

Happy Goat will also have its petting zoo and farm animals as part of the event.

More Than Goats and Pumpkins

Happy Goat is worth knowing about even without the Pumpkin Patch.

The nonprofit uses regenerative farming practices and grows food that goes back into the local community. The organization says its farm produced thousands of pounds of food for local families last year, and its goats are also used to graze vegetation and help clear fire-prone brush around Mariposa County.

So there is a bigger mission behind what looks, at first, like a fun day on a farm.

For me, that's another reason it makes sense as an e-bike destination. Yosemite E-Biking has always been about showing people more of Mariposa and the Sierra Foothills—the places, roads, history, and people you don't necessarily see on a typical Yosemite trip.

Happy Goat fits right into that.

Visiting Yosemite in October? Make a Day of It in Mariposa

If you're visiting Yosemite during either Pumpkin Patch weekend, you don't necessarily need to spend the entire day inside Yosemite National Park.

Come ride with us instead.

Yosemite E-Biking offers private guided electric bike tours from Mariposa, and for these October weekends we can make Happy Goat Farm part of the adventure.

The guided e-bike tour is the paid part of the day. Everything at Happy Goat during the Pumpkin Patch event is free.

We'll take care of the e-bikes, helmets, safety gear and route. You can ride through the foothills, spend some time at the farm, see the animals, enter a contest if you're feeling competitive and pick up your free pumpkin.

Then we get back on the bikes.

That's a pretty good way to spend a fall day near Yosemite.
